Day 7

245 lbs on the nose this morning, I'll take that...started off at 251.4...6.4 lbs less in 6 days, without feeling hungry, have more energy, so all is good. Sugar 7.6 this morning so that is also headed in the right direction. Katie down another 1/lb so she is down 7.2 in 6 days...Awesome!

Just have to remember why we're doing this. I golf two times a week with someone who I always thought was in decent shape, few years older than me, not fat, not a smoker. In the summer he golfed about 4 days a week and could walk the course, but didn't every time, because of some joint problems. He didn't have a regular exercise routine, and I think he ate what he wanted and consumed the typical American type diet...which by the way, we all really know, is not good for us...but do it anyway.

Last year he had a stroke and ended up in the hospital for a few weeks, then on to rehab for a month or so. Lost his drivers license as a result...good news is, he got it back later. His son had to drive his wife who didn't drive, to see him in the hospital and rehab every day, and pick her up again. He had a lot of trouble talking and swallowing at first. Much better now but not like the way it was before. He had to have a wheel chair at first, then graduated to a walker. He was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes while in the hospital, and didn't even know he had it. That is the worst! that's why they call it the "Silent Killer".

The good news? Less than a year later he is back golfing with us, which I never thought would happen. The guy simply loves the game. Has to take a cart now, because his walking and balance is not that great. He is on medication for the Type 2 Diabetes three times a day. He has lost weight and is probably where he should be on weight wise. His speech is still not what it was, but very passable. I think he really watches his diet now, but I know it still involves meat, but don't know if that still includes the red variety.

But!...he is still not close to being the man that he was...could he have prevented what happened by eating a nutrient rich diet plan? I don't know...who does really?

All I know is one thing...I have to lose weight and get healthier, or I can easily end up in the same condition...or worse. Is it too late...nope...never too late! My dad died of a heart attack at age 54 when I was 11. Good part is my mom lived to 100, still living on her own, and knew all her prices at Safeway...can still hear her saying "No dear...that is too expensive, it was 50 cents less last week."

Katie totally agrees, because she knows that women are not immune, so that's why we must remember why it is, we're doing what we're doing.

For Breakfast we had the usual with a twist, and that's fine with me because I like it. We had Oatmeal with blueberries, fresh strawberries, apple, flax seed, and hemp seed, with Soy milk.

Went for a nice 40 minute walk today and Katie went on the Eliptical for 20 minutes and did 1.5 miles.

For lunch we had home made Lentil soup. This consists of Lentils(yellow, green, orange...your choice), celery, carrots, onions, kale, cremini mushrooms, dried basil, dry oregeno, black pepper, fresh carrot juice, fresh celery juice and water....Oh my....It is excellent!

more later....
