243.2 lbs this morning still dropping and feeling just fine. Blood sugar 6.9 this morning, also a lot better than 8 point something. Katie is also down 1 lb this morning.
Regular breakfast again this morning.
I was talking to someone yesterday who was telling me that a man I know went on the latest craze "Dukan Diet" from France. He wanted to lost 15 pounds but instead lost 25. I think what a lot of people like about it is that there are a couple of "cheat days" when you get into the 2nd phase.
Katie and I are not thinking about this type of diet because it involves eating lean meat. We can tell you this...when we were vegans for 4 months, we did not have the bloated feeling, no heartburn whatsoever, and generally felt better. Soon as we have meat those things return. Why? because it takes 3 days for meat to go through your system. What we are doing now is certainly having the same results as being Vegan, but the difference is that we are trying to give ourselves a good kickstart losing weight so we are not eating pasta, breads etc. which we did when we were Vegan.
I have no idea if we are going to be able to maintain this, or even if we will want to. We do know one thing and that is we both have pounds to lose, but rather than Dukan Diet we would much rather do it in a more healthful way by eating fruits and vegetables rather than any type of meat.
Interesting quote from a recent study "A low-carbohydrate diet rich in animal foods was associated with a 23% increased risk of death from all causes (14% increased risk of death from cardiovascular disease). In contrast, a low-carbohydrate diet rich in vegetables was associated with a 20% decreased risk of death from all causes (23% decreased risk of death from cardiovascular disease)"
We still want to be "Social", it is much too difficult to be a vegan or eat nothing but fruits and vegetables when all around you, especially when traveling, or we are spending a month in Texas with lots of friends and happy hours.
So our goal is to get rid of lots of excess pounds now, so that when we get to Texas we can be "Social" but within reason of course. I think that any effort to eat in a more healthful way as much as you can is so much better than not trying at all....SO WE ARE!
Had the big salad for lunch. Went for my 40 minute walk.
Had home made vegetable soup for supper and left over vegetable taco salad without the tacos.
more later....

Starting last year we also go by ourselves several times
Welcome to our Blog
Some history....Katie and I quit smoking way back when, about 20 years ago, and we've never been the same since. We both gained a lot of weight and basically it has been with us ever since. You might ask yourself...well what have you done about it?...oh nothing!...just kidding....how about a variety of different eating plans, diets, exercise routines including a personal trainer for awhile.
What was the result of all this...well times of success but ultimate failure. Why? because we always revert to bad habits and bad eating We do all the things that most overweight people do, we eat when we're not really hungry, we eat too much, we eat the wrong things, we eat to feel better, we eat to fulfill our cravings.
Sad part is, that when we had the trainer, we got stronger, lost some weight felt better. When he was no longer in a position to train us, we thought that's ok we can do it on our own...WRONG!
We became Vegans for 4 months...it started off as a one month experiment and we found it so easy that we continued for 4 months. You can read that account here

We were good at it thanks to Katie's ability to make anything taste good, we lost weight and felt better. I also turned it into a bit of an entertainment blog so people wouldn't get too bored. We took pictures of virtually every meal and described things.
What happened? Well at the four month mark, we thought we would just add a few things a little at a time...oops the little things became big things...and the first long trip we took to Texas for a month, we reverted right back to our old bad eating habits. It's hard to travel and eat properly and it's hard when you're in a community setting with friends and happy hours to not indulge.
So now, we're decided enough is enough!!!!! So tomorrow we are starting a new phase in our lives which involves a concept called "Eat to Live" Eat to live is the title of a book, and way of eating which has been the life work of Dr. Joel Fuhrman. He has been on PBS, Dr. Oz, and is well published.
Rather than explain exactly what and how we'll be doing what we're doing, we will show and explain as we go along from day to day, and explain the results as we go along.
Hope you will enjoy and learn as we intend to do.
